Located on the western part of the island with a surface area of 52,21 Km, at an altitude of 936 m and a population of 10 523. It is 78 Km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife by road.

To the south it limits with Guía de Isora, to the east with La Orotava, and its north-eastern and northern areas border with Icod de los Vinos, Garachico, El Tanque and Los Silos. To the west it limits with Buenavista del Norte.
