It is a municipality characterised by its striking contrast between agricultural areas and the growing tourist areas. It’s town has a traditional economy based on agriculture, where tomatoes cover the greatest extensions, followed by banana plantations, potatoes, vineyards, vegetables, cereals and fodder crops, but in recent years it has been dedicated to searching for the income provided from tourism. The farming area is located in Tamaimo and Arguayo while tourist areas are found among the beaches of Puerto de Santiago and in Los Gigantes.
